In 1965, Mephisto's chairman and founder, Martin Michaeli, had a dream.  His
dream was to make the world's most comfortable walking shoe. 

In the 1960's, shoes weren't very comfortable.  Most had heavy leather soles
with poor traction and no shock absorption.  Insoles were not padded,
offering little to no arch support, and manufacturing techniques provided no
air circulation inside the shoe - resulting in products that were very stiff
and hot to wear. 

Fortunately, Mr. Michaeli's dream came true.  Today, his Mephistos are sold
in over 18,000 retail stores throughout 62 countries worldwide.  Mephisto
employees almost 3,000 master shoemakers, all handcrafting the world's
finest footwear based on the same philosophy the brand was founded on - that
excellence can and will be achieved every day with every pair.
