Bridal Veil Falls

Bridal Veil Falls is approximately 2.7 miles west of Highlands, NC just off the right side of Highway 64. To get to the falls, travel west on Main Street and continue out of town as Main Street turns into Highway 64. Bridal Veil Falls is a 120 ft fall that in times of little or no rain can be a mere trickle of water from the rocks above. By no means is this fall a raging river of water even during times of high precipitation.

Originally, Highway 64 passed directly under the falls but eventually was rerouted to pass in front of Bridal Veil Falls. Prior to December 2003, traffic could still drive under Bridal Veil Falls. In December of 2003, a huge rock fell from above, blocking the road that travels behind the falls. In July 2007, the rock was blasted & the pieces were removed so traffic can again travel behind the falls again in the future. The road is commonly closed when the road surface becomes hazardous but there is room for a few cars at a time to pull off so you can walk "under" the falls and catch a little spray.

When traveling the entire length of Highway 64 through the Cullasaja Gorge, care should be taken as Highway 64 has some very narrow and winding sections where traffic often travels at greatly reduced speeds.
