Located in the mountains of Western North Carolina, Highland Hiker has been outfitting hikers, fishermen, and travelers for over 25 years. We carry a wide selection of gear, clothing, and shoes for backpacking, fly fishing, camping, hiking, adventure travel, and much more.

We have 3 retail locations in Highlands & Cashiers and now we are expanding to include our online store. As HighlandHiker.com grows, we will be adding more products to our on-line catalog.

9 ways to make a difference in 2009
  • Eliminate one car ride a week - walk, rideshare or ride your bike. Or just stay home.
  • Volunteer with a local charity or community organization. If you're not sure what to do or where to go, here's a good place to start.
  • Introduce someone to the great outdoors - a park, a trail, any wild place. Exposing people to the outdoors is a critical first step in developing conservation supporters.
  • Plant a tree or donate a tree. Trees are the lungs of Earth and help combat the global warming effects of carbon dioxide.
  • Buy locally produced foods. It supports local farmers, the food is fresher, and it doesn't have to travel 1,500 miles to you - now that's some tired produce.
  • BYOB, bring your own bag when you go shopping. Find out why the only really good choice between paper or plastic is neither.
  • Repurpose. Reduce waste and get creative. Make trash into treasure, it just takes a little bit of a different perspective.
  • Support your local independent retailers. Just say no to big-box stores and yes to mom and pop. It's an easy way to support your community.
